Goal Setting: Am I Doing This Right?

Embarking on a new year often brings with it a surge of motivation to set goals and conquer new milestones. Yet, in the quest for progress, it’s crucial to recognize that there’s a right way and a wrong way to approach goal-setting.

The common misstep lies in treating goals as absolutes—an unwavering line that, if not crossed, leaves us feeling deflated and labeled as failures. Instead, consider goals as markers, guiding lights to work towards rather than rigid benchmarks that define success or failure.

Flexibility is key. Goals should be fluid, and able to adapt to variable changes without losing their essence. Think of them as living entities that can morph while retaining their core purpose. It’s a delicate balance, ensuring adaptability while being diligent not to veer into the territory of abandoning the goal altogether.

Tracking and monitoring are essential. Faithfully revisit your goals each quarter. This consistent evaluation allows for adjustments, celebrates progress, and keeps you accountable. To maintain this ongoing connection with your goals, place them in a location where your eyes naturally fall—a daily reminder of what you’re striving to achieve, taking time to encourage yourself that you’ve got this!  Intentionally eliminating all excuses.  Purposefully removing barriers that have hindered your goals in the past.

Balance is the backbone of effective goal-setting. Extend your aspirations beyond the professional realm, encompassing the various facets of life. Well-balanced goals acknowledge the interconnectedness of work and personal life, fostering holistic growth – emotionally, physically, and spiritually. The journey is as significant as the destination.
